Logs for Blackburn and Darwen homes
With a Defra-exempt stove, or outside the smoke control areas, the tonne bag of mixed hardwood is the usual winter stock-up. With an open fire or a stove that isn't exempt inside a smoke control area, choose an authorised smokeless fuel instead.
Areas we cover
We deliver across Blackburn, including Ewood, Mill Hill, Beardwood, Roe Lee and Little Harwood, and to Darwen, Lower Darwen, Feniscowles, Livesey and Belthorn. Just over the border in the Ribble Valley we cover Wilpshire and Mellor. Every BB1, BB2 and BB3 postcode is in our free area, and we also deliver to Accrington, Bolton and the rest of East Lancashire.
Smoke control in Blackburn and Darwen
Blackburn with Darwen Council says most of the urban population centres of the borough are in smoke control areas. Ten wards are fully covered and seven partly, including the Darwen wards. The council says plainly that wood, timber and logs are not authorised fuel.
- Inside a smoke control area, you can burn logs only in a Defra-exempt stove. Otherwise, use an authorised smokeless fuel.
- In law, smoke from a chimney there can bring a penalty of £175 to £300, and buying unauthorised fuel for a stove that isn't exempt can bring a fine of up to £1,000.
- Search your address on the map on the council's smoke control page. Wilpshire and Mellor are in Ribble Valley, so check those with Ribble Valley Council.
