Logs for Skipton homes
With a Defra-exempt stove, a tonne bag of mixed hardwood is the simplest way to stock up for winter, and net bags make good top-ups. Without an exempt stove inside the smoke control area, you need an authorised smokeless fuel rather than logs; call us for the specification of ours before you order.

Smoke control in Skipton
North Yorkshire Council says the majority of Skipton, and parts of South Craven such as Sutton and Cross Hills, are smoke control areas. It publishes separate maps for Skipton and South Craven on its smoke control page.
- Inside these areas you must burn an authorised fuel, or use an exempt appliance.
- Authorised fuels include those on Defra's list, plus anthracite, semi-anthracite, gas and low volatile steam coal.
- In law, smoke from a chimney there can bring a penalty of £175 to £300, and buying unauthorised fuel for a stove that isn't exempt can bring a fine of up to £1,000.
