Logs for Colne homes

With a Defra-exempt stove, a tonne bag of mixed hardwood covers most of a winter, and 40-litre net bags make easy top-ups. If your stove or fire is not exempt and you are in a smoke control area, use an authorised smokeless fuel instead.

Smoke control in Colne

Colne is in the Borough of Pendle. Pendle Council says the majority of Pendle has been declared a smoke control area, covering its more built-up areas.

  • Wood is not an authorised fuel there, so burn logs only in an exempt appliance, and only if the manufacturer says it suits wood.
  • The council points residents to the Defra smoke control map to check their address.
