Logs for Dewsbury and Batley homes
With a Defra-exempt stove, the tonne bag of mixed hardwood is the usual winter order, and if you have room for it, the XL tonne bag works out cheaper per cubic metre. With an open fire or a stove that isn't exempt, choose an authorised smokeless fuel.
Areas we cover
We deliver across Dewsbury, including Thornhill, Thornhill Lees, Savile Town, Ravensthorpe, Dewsbury Moor, Chickenley and Shaw Cross, and across Batley, including Carlinghow, Soothill, Staincliffe, Healey and Hanging Heaton. Birstall and neighbouring Heckmondwike are in our free area too. Nearby we also cover Mirfield, Cleckheaton and Wakefield.
Smoke control in Dewsbury and Batley
Kirklees Council says Kirklees is a smoke control area, with only a few exempted properties. It says wood can be burned only in exempt appliances, and that kindling can be used in Kirklees. In practice:
- Wood is not an authorised fuel, so you can burn logs only in an exempt appliance, such as a Defra-exempt stove.
- Open fires and other stoves need an authorised smokeless fuel, such as anthracite or a fuel on Defra's list.
- In law, smoke from a chimney there can bring a penalty of £175 to £300, and buying unauthorised fuel for a stove that isn't exempt can bring a fine of up to £1,000. To check whether your property is one of the exempted ones, contact the council's pollution team.
